Dylan Tan (12)

Service Learning has taught me the importance of patience and appreciation. This experience tested my patience by throwing challenges at me that include selling ice cream for a whole day and packing books for hours under the hot sun. I now appreciate what I have and I salute and respect others who really contribute to the society like donors and volunteers.

The best thing about the Service Learning experience was meeting the handicapped people at the Down Syndrome Association, I learned to be grateful for what I have now and complain less, as others are not as fortunate as I am.

I do see myself helping the community in the future as I feel that a simple helping gesture can go a long way in assisting others, for example, a small donation of a few hundred dollars can help a financially challenged family for a few months. This acts of kindness can make a difference for others.
